Injury Waiver

March to Abolish Animal Testing (hereinafter “MAAT”) is a 14-day, approximately 200-mile march from Albany, New York to Marshall Farms in upstate New York, taking place September 12–26, 2026. The campaign begins with a kickoff event in Albany on September 12 and concludes with a community event at Marshall Farms on September 26. Marshall Farms is a commercial breeding facility that supplies dogs and other animals to research laboratories across the country. Participants may join for the full march, any portion of the route, or either event.

By participating in the MAAT, I acknowledge and accept the following:

  • The march covers approximately 200 miles over 14 days on public roads and varied terrain. Participation involves physical risk, including but not limited to injury from walking, traffic, weather, and uneven surfaces.
  • I acknowledge that I have voluntarily agreed to participate in the MAAT.
  • I acknowledge that I am responsible for providing my own medical, health and liability insurance during my volunteer service. I understand that I am not covered by workers compensation nor insured by MAAT at any time during my participation in the MAAT.
  • I am responsible for assessing my own physical condition and fitness to participate. I understand that MAAT strongly encourages me to consult a physician before committing to any portion of the march.
  • I agree that MAAT, its organizers, volunteers, and coalition partners are not liable for any injury, illness, or loss I may sustain during my participation.
  • I, my heirs and my assignees hereby release, waive and covenant not to sue the MAAT or anyone affiliated with, contracted by or employed by the MAAT. I, my heirs and my assignees further release the MAAT and anyone affiliated with, contracted by or employed by the MAAT from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions and causes of action whatsoever arising out of the march, whether caused by the negligence of the MAAT or otherwise.
  • I participate voluntarily and assume all associated risks.

Participation by Minors: Participants under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for the duration of their participation. The accompanying adult assumes full responsibility for the minor and must agree to this waiver on their behalf.

Nonviolence Agreement

March to Abolish Animal Testing (hereinafter “MAAT”) is a 14-day, approximately 200-mile march from Albany, New York to Marshall Farms in upstate New York, taking place September 12–26, 2026. The campaign begins with a kickoff event in Albany on September 12 and concludes with a community event at Marshall Farms on September 26. Marshall Farms is a commercial breeding facility that supplies dogs and other animals to research laboratories across the country. Participants may join for the full march, any portion of the route, or either event.

MAAT is a nonviolent action. Every participant is expected to uphold this principle, not just as a rule, but as a reflection of the values we are marching for.

By signing this agreement, you commit to:

  • Remaining nonviolent in all actions and interactions throughout the campaign, including the Albany rally, the march route, and the final event at Marshall Farms.
  • Refraining from any behavior that could be reasonably perceived as threatening, aggressive, or destructive.
  • Follow the direction of march leadership and team leads, especially during tense or high-pressure moments.
  • Prioritizing de-escalation if confronted by counter-protesters, law enforcement, or hostile bystanders.
  • Understanding that the animals are the story. Not us.

Participants who violate this agreement may be asked to leave the march. Leadership reserves the right to make that call in the moment.

Disclaimer: MAAT is not responsible for any of the actions of any march participant if those actions are in violation of the law. We do not condone or encourage violence or illegal activity of any kind.
